Baseball: Surging El Toro wins its ninth consecutive game

El Toro is rising fast in the Southern Section Division 1 baseball rankings. The Chargers ranked No. 2 and won their ninth consecutive game on Wednesday, improving to 19-5 overall and 6-2 in the South Coast League with a 6-1 win over Tesoro.

Noah Fluman threw a two-hitter, striking out four and walking two. Josh Zamora, Gavin Garcia and Stone Shiffman each had two hits. Austin Green had two RBIs.

Capistrano Valley 4, Dana Hills 1: Mitchell Nickovich hit a home run and Zak Herbers allowed one run in six innings for the Cougars.

Servite 1, Santa Margarita 0: Nick Cornelius threw a one-hitter to outduel Chandler Champion, who allowed five hits. Connor Clancy drove in the game’s only run in the third inning.

Santa Ana Mater Dei 7, Orange Lutheran 6: The Monarchs rallied behind USC-bound Josh Stephen, who finished with three hits, including a two-run double in the sixth.

Chaminade 6, Alemany 4: The Eagles won their fifth consecutive Mission League game to stay tied for first place. Nick Kahle and Blake Rutherford each went two for two. Sophomore Patrick Collins, in his varsity debut, pitched three innings of relief and picked up the win.

Loyola 10, Crespi 1: Holden Groff struck out six and gave up two hits in six innings. Stephen Burke, Derek Marshall and Brandon Posivak each had two hits. The Cubs are tied for first place with Chaminade.

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 9, St. Francis 5: Noah Taylor had three hits and two RBIs and Michael Whiteside also had three hits for Notre Dame.

Agoura 6, Newbury Park 5: Tommy Tabak’s walk-off single in the eighth won the Marmonte League game. The Chargers scored two runs. Newbury Park had a three-run seventh to tie the game. Ben Baird finished with three hits and three RBIs. Jake Miller had three hits for Newbury Park.

Thousand Oaks 3, Oaks Christian 2: John Glenn hit a home run in the Lancers’ Marmonte League win.

Westlake 5, Calabasas 1: The Warriors picked up the Marmonte League win.

Moorpark 11, Oak Park 1: Travis Weston struck out eight in five innings. Greg Dominguez and Ryan Mitchell each had three hits.

Simi Valley 7, Royal 5: Cal Hodgins finished with three hits and four RBIs, including a home run, for the Pioneers. Andrew Nardi went four for four to lead Royal.

Marina 2, Newport Harbor 1: Jared Minor struck out nine in a complete game to keep Marina in first place in the Sunset League.

Huntington Beach 3, Los Alamitos 2: Kobie Anton came up with the save in a Sunset League win. Nick Pratto, Chad Minato and JJ Muratore led the Oilers with two hits each.

Edison 2, Fountain Valley 1: Vince Inman threw the complete game for the Chargers.

Esperanza 9, El Modena 3: Haydon Nix had three hits and two RBIs to lead a 14-hit attack.

Baldwin Park 8, Workman 1: Sophomore Andrew Barboza went four for five.

Brea Olinda 5, Foothill 4: Brea won the game in eight innings.

Harvard-Westlake 3, Dos Pueblos 1: Jake Suddleson went three for three with a home run and two doubles in the nonleague game.

Bishop Amat 9, Gardena Serra 3: Dante Castillo had three hits and two RBIs and Clarence Carter, Ben Hurst and Nick DiFiori added two hits apiece for Bishop Amat.

Temescal Canyon 9, Paloma Valley 2: Karel Wade hit two home runs for Temescal Canyon (17-8, 9-0).

Bonita 9, Diamond Bar 1: Brandon Bradshaw had three hits and four RBIs.

Hart 10, Saugus 4: Robert Reeves contributed a two-run home run for the Indians in a Foothill League win. Dillon Klement and Grant Thuente added two hits apiece.

West Ranch 9, Canyon 6: Jason Drees finished with two hits and three RBIs in the Foothill League win.

Valencia 5, Golden Valley 3: Trace Eldridge was three for four and got the save in relief for the Vikings.

Kennedy 5, Van Nuys 1: Francisco Felix threw the complete game.

Sun Valley Poly 7, Arleta 0: The Parrots completed an unbeaten East Valley League season. Tony Ramirez gave up two hits and struck out eight. Jesus Carranza went three for three.

Roosevelt 6, Garfield 3: Kenny Gallegos threw a complete game and also added two hits.

Cypress 9, Valencia 3: Raul Salazar struck out eight in a complete-game performance. Aaron Lizarrage sparked the offense with three hits. Dominic Fletcher added two hits and two RBIs.

Mission Viejo 6, San Clemente 0: The Diablos won in eight innings. Tanner Bibee threw seven shutout innings. Jake Figueroa had three hits.

El Dorado 13, Anaheim Canyon 2: El Dorado kept pace with Esperanza in the battle for first place in the Crestview League.

Aliso Niguel 9-6, Laguna Hills 0-0: Hunter Ash struck out nine in six shutout innings and allowed just one hit in the second game. Ethan Butka threw the shutout in the first game.

Long Beach Wilson 5, Lakewood 2: Jack Williford threw the complete game in the Moore League victory. He struck out eight.

Long Beach Millikan 7, Long Beach Poly 2: Millikan moved into first place in the Moore League.

Norco 8, Corona Santiago 4: Leadoff hitter Colby Sims had three hits to help Norco win the Big VIII League game. He also hit a home run.

South Hills 5, Ayala 4: The Huskies won the Palomares League game in eight innings. Brandon Dieter had the walk-off hit.

Quartz Hill 5, Lancaster 0: Daniel Cardenas struck out five and walked none in five shutout innings and Ethan Avant closed out with two shutout innings in the Golden League game at Jethawk Stadium.
