Boys’ basketball: Price wins championship in overtime

Price won the Maranatha tournament championship with a 65-61 overtime win over Cantwell-Sacred Heart. MVP James Washington scored 14 points. Roderick Williams added 16 points. Gilgorije Rakocevic had 20 points for the Cardinals.

Price overcame a 17-point deficit in the second half. Donnell Murray of Price sent the game into overtime with a basket with less than a second left on the clock.

Chino Hills defeated Maranatha, 87-65, in the third-place game. LiAngelo Ball had 33 points. Alemany defeated Westlake, 72-56. Shacquille Dawkins and Brandon Davis each had 20 points. Dorsey defeated Oak Park, 63-58. Riley Battin had 15 points for Oak Park. Cajon defeated St. Francis, 45-26.

La Mirada stamped itself as a team to watch after going 4-0 in the Mission Viejo tournament and knocking off Orange Lutheran, 70-61, in the championship game. Kendall Lauderdale scored 26 points. Rogers Printup led Orange Lutheran with 18 points.

Tournament MVP Stephen Thompson Jr. scored 30 points to lead Bishop Montgomery past St. John Bosco, 77-60, in the championship game of the Westchester tournament. Vance Jackson scored 31 points for Bosco.

Brentwood won the Mira Costa tournament title with a 57-53 win over Mira Costa. Tournament MVP Maxwell Kupchak scored 20 points. Harvard-Westlake took third place with a 65-43 win over Gardena. Alex Copeland had 23 points.

Fairfax won the El Segundo tournament title with a 79-66 win over Loyola. Donald Gipson had 22 points, Lindsey Drew 17 and Lorne Currie 16. Max Hazzard had 27 points for Loyola

No. 1 Corona Centennial rallied for a 67-63 win over Etiwanda. Sedrick Barefield scored 31 points.

Damien won the Sierra Vista tournament with a 67-53 win over Glendora. MVP Jeremy Hemsley scored 22 points. Bryce Peters and Malik Fitts added 18 apiece. Thousand Oaks defeated Colony, 72-62, with Matt Hauser scoring 28 points.

In the Simi Valley tournament, Valencia won the championshp with a 79-64 win over Santa Barbara. Tournament MVP Dakota Abbott, a 6-4 senior guard, scored 36 points for Valencia.

Cathedral opened with an 81-70 win over Morse. Milan Acquaah had 31 points and Leandro Amador 24.

Santa Margarita (4-0) defeated St. Paul, 62-45. Scott Wesierski had 16 points. Crean Lutheran defeated Servite, 52-51.

Mater Dei opened with an 88-32 win over Dos Pueblos. Rex Pflueger had 19 points and MJ Cage 17.

Buckley won its tournament title with a 73-61 win over Crescenta Valley. Kihel Clark had 21 points and Austin Butler 18.

Rancho Cucamonga defeated Alta Loma, 73-53. Tamber Jabsheh had 16 points.

Oxnard defeated St. Bonaventure, 67-64, in double overtime. Jake Todey had 28 points for St. Bonaventure.

Birmingham got back Serigne Athj, who scored 12 points in 15 minutes, in a 54-35 win over Kennedy.
