Blake Griffin said the bursa sac in his swollen right elbow was drained after Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bulls at Staples Center.

Griffin had the same elbow drained last season.

“It’s still a little big,” Griffin said Tuesday. “But they put some anti-inflammatory fluid in there. It should go down in the next couple of days.”

Griffin said he was told that it wouldn’t be a good idea to have surgery on the bursa sac right now. “If you do, there’s an increased chance of arthritis,” Griffin said.

The bursa sac acts as a cushion for bones and muscles. When it becomes filled with fluid, the elbow becomes inflamed.

Griffin leads the Clippers in scoring (22.0 points) and minutes played (36.9) and is second in rebounding (10.8) and assists (3.1). Griffin, who is right-handed, said he’s had elbow problems, “since my junior year of high school.”

At times, Griffin has worn a protective sleeve on his elbow. “But it’s going to get big no matter what, so I just don’t worry about it,” he said.

Looking at Lamar

The Clippers remain interested in free-agent forward Lamar Odom and continue to monitor his progress.

Odom played last season for the Clippers. During the summer, he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, and there were rumors of drug use.

Clippers Coach Doc Rivers said he plans on staying in touch with Odom.

After recent workouts in Rhode Island in an attempt to revive his NBA career, Odom is expected back in Los Angeles this week, said one executive.

The plan is for Odom to visit the team’s practice facility this week, according to people in the NBA who weren’t authorized to speak publicly on the matter. It would be Odom’s second visit this month.

“I’m going to keep talking to him,” Rivers said. “I don’t know what our plans are yet. I like Lamar. I want him to be in the NBA. And if things go right, here.

“Having said that, I just want him to do well. Obviously, if he does well, we’d like for it to be for us. But let’s say he doesn’t come here and he does well in the NBA, I’d be just as happy, honestly. I look at the guy and I think he’s a good guy and he needs another shot.”

If the Clippers sign Odom, he’ll get a one-year deal for about $883,000.

Rivers said he knows that former Lakers coach Phil Jackson and former Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro liked Odom.

“They loved him in the locker room and they loved him on their team,” Rivers said. “And that tells me something about the guy.”
