GROUP B: BRAZIL vs. HAITI

Where: Orlando, Fla. Time: 4:30 p.m. PDT. TV: FS1, UniMas, UDN.

The buzz: Neither team scored a goal in its opener, but Brazil didn’t allow one either and that gives it a leg up over Haiti, which dropped a 1-0 decision to Peru and would have no chance of advancing to the knockout round with another loss. For Brazil, which dominated Ecuador statistically in its opening draw, another tie would keep its quarterfinal hopes alive while victories over Haiti and Peru in its next two games would send it through.

GROUP B: ECUADOR vs. PERU

Where: Glendale, Ariz. Time: 7 p.m. PDT. TV: FS2, UniMas, UDN.

The buzz: With a 1-0 win over Haiti, Peru was the only Group B team that scored a goal in last week’s openers. Ecuador thought it had one too, but an apparent score by Miller Bolanos in the 68th minute against Brazil was waved off by a linesman, who ruled the ball had gone out of bounds before the shot. That left Ecuador to settle for a scoreless draw and leaves Peru in surprising control of its own destiny Wednesday, when a win would guarantee it a spot in the quarterfinals. Ecuador, meanwhile, which played well against Brazil, needs at least a tie to keep its hopes of advancing alive; a victory would give it a share of the group lead after two games.
