Jared Lorenzen is a 320-pound former NFL quarterback who hasn’t played in the league in six years.

So why is everyone suddenly making such a big deal about him?

It has a lot to do with a couple of Vine videos of him playing last weekend in the season opener for the Northern Kentucky River Monsters of the Continental Indoor Football League, posted by John Feitelberg of Barstool Sports.

As you can see, Lorenzen is light on his feet, so to speak, and tough to bring down. He had the same qualities at Kentucky, where he led the Wildcats to a 7-5 record with 24 touchdowns and five interceptions in 2002 and set numerous school passing records. His playing weight at the time was around 260.

The man who embraces such nicknames as the Hefty Lefty and Pillsbury Throwboy didn’t get much playing time in the NFL, but he earned a Super Bowl ring as Eli Manning’s backup with the New York Giants in 2008. His playing weight then was around 275.

He stepped away as a player more than once to take front-office jobs in indoor football but can’t seem to stay away from the playing field. One such comeback resulted in him earning the Ultimate Football League’s MVP honors in 2011.

And now, weighing over a hundred pounds more than Super Bowl champion quarterback Russell Wilson, Lorenzen is back and better than ever.
