Owner Micky Arison says Ray Allen will sign with Heat

Ray Allen will sign with the Heat, according to a tweet from Miami owner Micky Arison.

“It’s 2:30 a.m. in London and I was just woken up with great news. Welcome to the family -- No. 20,” said Arison via Twitter on Friday night.

Confirming an agreement between Allen and the Heat on a mini mid-level contract worth $3 million for next season were CBSSports.com, Associated Press, Yahoo! and SI.com. The contract can’t be signed until Wednesday when an NBA business moratorium is lifted.

Allen, a 10-time All-Star, will turn 37 later this month. He is the NBA’s all-time three-point leader and has averaged 20 points a game while shooting 40% from three-point range during his career.

Allen won an NBA championship in 2008 with the Boston Celtics after distinguishing himself among the best sharpshooters during his days with the Milwaukee Bucks and Seattle SuperSonics. Allen averaged 14.2 points last season with the Celtics, shooting 45% from the field and three-point range.

The other significant NBA news Friday was the Philadelphia 76ers cutting power forward Elton Brand under the NBA’s amnesty clause as the club reached an agreement with swingman Nick Young.
