Van Nuys 104, Sylmar 42 Anthony Cook, Van Nuys High’s 6-8 center, scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Wolves in a 104-42 romp at Sylmar High in a East Valley 3-A opener.

Van Nuys, which is 10-2 overall, had three other players in double figures. Pat Meyer scored 18 points, while guards Maurice Idolor and Jerry Dorsey tossed in 12 points each. Damon Fredieu added nine points for the Wolves.

The Spartans, who were tormented by the Van Nuys defense throughout the game, scored just four points in the first quarter and trailed 51-14 at halftime. John Smith, Mario White, Steve Crawley and Wesley Tanijiri each scored six points for Sylmar, which is 0-7 overall.

Camarillo 69, Thousand Oaks 46 Mitch Parrott score 17 points and Steve Banales added 16 as Camarillo High downed Thousand Oaks in a Marmonte League opener, 69-46. The Scorpions are now 9-3 overall.

The Lancers, who fell to 3-9, were led by senior forward Dan Birg who scored 13 points.

Agoura 53, St. Bonaventure 36 Forward Mike Corridori scored 22 points to lead Agoura High in a non-league victory over host St. Bonaventure. Agoura is now 6-7 overall.

Forward Bill Babby paced St. Bonaventure with 11 points.

Marshall 64, Polytechnic 49 Marshall High outscored host Polytechnic High, 17-6, in the third quarter and went on to win their East Valley League opener, 64-49. Jerry Simon led the Barristers with 28 points and 10 rebounds.

Alex Ruzich had 18 points and 15 rebounds for the Parrots, who trailed 27-26 at the half.

Burbank 51, LB Jordan 50 Gary Lotka scored 22 points but it was Kent Warner who put in the deciding basket for Burbank, which increased its rercord to 9-3. Warner’s shot made it 51-47 with 1:10 left and Burbank held off Jordan the rest of the way.
