Suspicious Blazes Hit Two Schools
Arson was suspected in fires that broke out in two junior high schools in the San Gabriel Valley within half an hour of each other Monday night.
The first blaze damaged two classrooms and the principal’s office at Edgewood Intermediate School in La Puente. It was controlled after an hour by eight companies of Los Angeles County firefighters.
Before it was extinguished, however, another fire erupted less than two miles away at Willowood Junior High School in West Covina.
The second blaze was quickly extinguished by three West Covina fire companies, and damage was confined to two file cabinets, firefighters said.
West Covina police officer Bruce Sago said the school was the target of an arsonist last year.
