Century League : Valley Upsets El Modena, 58-54

Defense proved to be the difference Wednesday night as Santa Ana Valley upset 10th-ranked El Modena, 58-54, in Century League action at Santa Ana Valley.
The Falcons (3-3) took control of the game in the first quarter with a full-court press and some aggressive man-to-man defense and held the Vanguards (4-2) scoreless for the first four minutes.
“The kids showed a lot of character,” Falcon Coach Tom Riach said. “We played aggressive man-to-man defense in the second half and made them take a lot of poor shots.”
In the third quarter, El Modena was 2 of 8 from the field and didn’t do much better in the fourth quarter, making only 3 of 9.
