Two people killed in a midair plane collision over Irwindale were identified by the Los Angeles County coroner as Sandra Switzer, 34, of Pasadena and Ralph Powell, 46, of Arcadia. They died Sunday, after their Cessna 120 collided with another light aircraft over the Santa Fe Dam recreational area, authorities said. Student pilot Randolph Barrows Jr. of Los Angeles and his instructor, Stefano Sturlese, said their plane, a Cessna 152, had been struck by the landing gear of the Cessna 120 containing Switzer and Powell. The impact shattered the 152’s windshield, forcing the men to land on a nearby road. Their aircraft crashed through a chain-link fence before coming to a stop. Both men suffered minor injuries. The Cessna 120 crashed near the Foothill and San Gabriel freeways. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident.
