Express Plays Exhibition Game Today
The Los Angeles Express, defending champions of the United States Football League’s Pacific Division, will play host to the Portland Breakers today at 1 p.m. in an exhibition game at Pierce College.
The Breakers, coached by Dick Coury, have changed cities and divisions since last season. The Breakers last year were the New Orleans Breakers, who had been the Boston Breakers the season before that. With the USFL trimming from 18 to 14 teams this season, the Breakers have moved from the Southern to the Pacific Division.
Portland is led by the rushing duo of Marcus Dupree and Buford Jordan, who combined for nearly 2,000 yards last season.
The Express, which broke training camp at Long Beach Thursday, is led by second-year quarterback Steve Young, who passed for 2,361 yards last season and rushed for 515 more, even though he did not play in the team’s first six games.
