1 Killed, 1 Badly Hurt in Car-Truck Collision

A20-year-old La Crescenta man was killed and his woman passenger was critically injured Friday evening when their car slammed into the rear of a semitrailer truck on the Foothill Freeway in Sunland, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The car was traveling an estimated 75 m.p.h. when it hit the truck, which was traveling about 35 m.p.h., the spokesman said. The truck driver was not injured.

The crash occurred about 6:30 p.m. on the westbound lanes east of La Tuna Canyon Road.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene from massive chest injuries. The woman was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills, where she was reported in critical condition.

Authorities would not release names of the victims pending notification of relatives.
