UCI’s Men Defeat Rice in Tennis, 5-4
The UC Irvine men’s tennis team, ranked 11th in the nation, downed Rice University, 5-4, in a nonconference match at Irvine Tuesday.
The Anteaters won all their singles matches and lost all their doubles matches in the victory. Rice fell to 7-3.
UCI’s No. 1 singles player, Bruce Man Son Hing, defeated 28th-ranked Scott Melville, 6-2, 6-2, to mark the third time in the last two weeks that he has defeated a player ranked in the top 30. Previous wins by Man Son Hing have come against Pepperdine’s Dani Leal (23rd-ranked) and USC’s Todd Witsken (4th-ranked).
Other singles winners for the Anteaters were Brad Ackerman, Ken Derr, Darren Yates and Neal Amor.
UCI (12-5) plays Texas Tech Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Racquet Club of Irvine.
