Irvine : Motor-Scooter Driver Dies in Truck Collision
An 18-year-old motor-scooter rider was killed early Friday when he apparently ran a red light and collided with a pickup truck near the UC Irvine campus, police said.
Jeffrey Brock of Corona del Mar was traveling south on MacArthur Boulevard shortly after midnight when his scooter struck a 1973 3/4-ton Chevy truck driven by Dave Fujiyama, 22, a UCI student and resident of the campus, police said.
Brock died at the scene of massive internal injuries despite medical efforts by police and paramedics. Fujiyama and his two passengers were not injured, police said.
Witnesses said Brock was traveling about 45 m.p.h. when his Yamaha Riva scooter collided with Fujiyama’s truck, which was making a left turn onto University Drive, police said. No citations were issued in the accident, police said.
