Police chased two men in a black Cadillac at speeds up to 70 m.p.h. through three cities Sunday after a witness reported seeing one of the men handling a gun at a stoplight.
Leonardo Juan Rodriguez, 20, of Anaheim, and Wayne Alan Hayes, 25, of Fountain Valley, were arrested and held on $10,000 bail, said Sgt. Larry Fischbeck. Police found six ounces of what appeared to be cocaine in the car, he said.
Police said the witness was at a hamburger stand when he saw a passenger handling a gun in a black Cadillac stopped at a traffic light at Brookhurst Street and Garden Grove Boulevard in Garden Grove. The passenger “displayed a handgun” but did not point it at anyone, Fischbeck said.
The witness said he saw the car head north on Brookhurst Street. He flagged down a patrol officer, who broadcast a description of the car and its license plate number, Fischbeck said. Officer Daryk Rowland spotted the car a few miles away and tried to pull it over, but it sped away, police said.
The car raced through Santa Ana and into Fountain Valley, Fischbeck said. As it traveled south on Euclid Street, two firearms were tossed out north of Edinger Avenue, he said. The Cadillac then pulled into a condominium complex at the intersection, Fischbeck said. Rodriguez was arrested there, and Hayes was chased on foot and arrested a short distance away, he said.
