Preps SPRING SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS : Hart’s Rally Beats Burroughs, 8-5

Hart High broke open a tie with three runs in the seventh inning en route to an 8-5 win Tuesday at Burroughs High and remained undefeated in the Foothill League.

With the score tied, 5-5, Tom Moreno singled and stole second and third base with two outs. He scored on Sheldon Sparks’ drag bunt single.

Hart finished its scoring with back-to-back RBI singles by David Lee and Jim Bonds.

David Fox slugged a two-run homer in the second inning for Hart (4-0) and Steve Toledo added a solo home run in the third. Burroughs fell to 1-3.

Chaminade 8, Cathedral 5

Pablo Suarez had two hits and three runs batted in as Chaminade High beat Cathedral in a Santa Fe League game at home.

Chaminade remained undefeated in three league games. The Eagles are 6-4 overall.

Montclair Prep 17, Village Christian 4

Third-inning, back-to-back triples by Scott Randall and Kevin Bromber paced Montclair Prep to an Alpha League victory over Village Christian at Valley College.

Randall led the Mounties with three hits and three RBIs, and Reggie Smith Jr. slugged his fifth home run.

Montclair Prep improved to 5-0 in the league. Village Christian is 0-3.

LA Baptist 13, Lutheran La Verne 2

LA Baptist scored seven in the first inning and went on to beat La Verne Lutheran in an Alpha League game at home.

Sophomore first baseman Donnie Hinson led the Knights with two hits and three RBIs. Mike MacDonald, who had two hits, knocked in two runs.

LA Baptist is 2-1 in the league.

Bishop Diego 1, Oak Park 0

Oak Park averted first-inning disaster by turning a triple play in a Tri-Valley League game at Bishop Diego. The Eagles then battled to a scoreless tie through seven innings but couldn’t stop the Cardinals from pushing across the lone run in the eighth.

The triple play occurred with Cardinals on first and second base.

Mike Perry hit a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the eighth to give the Cardinals their first league win in four games.
