LEXINGTON, Ky. — Calumet Farm has reached agreement with Black Chip Stables to purchase a 50% interest in Wild Again, winner of the Breeders’ Cup Classic, for an estimated $12 million, it was announced Thursday.
Under terms of the agreement announced by William M. Allen, owner of Black Chip Stables, and J.T. Lundy of Calumet Farm, Wild Again would race for the remainder of the season under the Black Chip colors, then would be shipped to Kentucky to stand at stud under the supervision of Calumet.
A spokesman for Black Chip Stables said trainer Vincent Timphony will continue to supervise the horse’s training, with his 1985 debut expected this summer and the $3 million Breeders’ Cup Classic Nov. 2 at Aqueduct scheduled to be his final race.
