Batata Scores Four Goals as Lazers Down Comets, 8-4

Brazilian forward Batata scored four goals Friday night to lead the Lazers to an 8-4 victory over the Kansas City Comets in a Major Indoor Soccer League game at Kemper Arena.

The win was the third in a row for the Lazers (23-19), who have already qualified for the MISL playoffs. Kansas City fell to 18-24.

The Comets took a 1-0 lead just 23 seconds into the game when Laurie Abrahams, who played for Lazer Coach Peter Wall when both were with the California Surf, beat goalie Tim Harris.

The Lazers then scored four straight goals, two by Batata and one each by Willie Molano and Beto, and led, 4-1, in the third period. The Comets closed within 4-3 on a pair of Charlie Fajkus goals, and tied the score on Tim Twellman’s goal early in the fourth period.

The Lazers went ahead, 5-4, on Batata’s third goal of the game with 8:34 left.
