Lakeside

An 84-year-old Alpine woman was killed Tuesday after she apparently lost control of her car near Lakeside. The California Highway Patrol reported that the woman, who wasn’t immediately identified, was traveling south on California 67 about 1:10 p.m., when her car turned toward the center divider, then swerved sharply to the right. The car went over a 37-foot embankment, landed on its nose on Industrial Drive, and burst into flames. Witnesses pulled the woman from the flaming wreckage. She was airlifted to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 3 p.m.
