The City Council has voted to cut down at least nine of the 147 diseased carob trees along Pickford Way and Westwood Boulevard, ending a struggle between residents who wanted to keep as many trees as possible and several councilmen who wanted to keep costs down by taking them all out at once.

The council voted 4 to 1 to remove only the trees that are affected with at least 75% tree rot.
