Gasoline Tanker Explodes in Crash With Car; 2 Die
Two people were killed Thursday night when the car in which they were riding collided with a gasoline tanker, which then exploded, on U.S. 101 in Thousand Oaks, authorities said.
Authorities closed off the highway in both directions as flames shot up as high as 100 feet from the tanker following the 9:45 p.m. accident in the northbound lanes of the highway at Rancho Conejo Road, Lt. Joe Harwell of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department said.
Investigators did not immediately identify the victims, but said the driver of the tanker was not one of those killed. He was transported to Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks with second-degree burns, Harwell said.
