The Green Bay Packers apparently have enough interest in acquiring Vince Ferragamo that a team official is expected in Los Angeles soon to test the Rams’ veteran quarterback, it was reported Thursday.

According to the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Coach John Robinson of the Rams said that the Packers had made arrangements observe Ferragamo in a workout, probably within the next week.

Ferragamo, who will be 31 in three weeks, became expendable when the Rams signed free-agent quarterback Dieter Brock last week.

Green Bay Coach Forrest Gregg said recently that the Packers would want to check out Ferragamo’s throwing hand before going any further. Ferragamo suffered a smashed knuckle on his index finger and a broken bone in the hand during the 1984 season.

Chuck Hutchison, the Packers’ director of player procurement, said the Rams “indicated they would be receptive to trading Ferragamo. We haven’t gone beyond the preliminary talking stage.”
