THOSE OSCARS

Share

In “What the Seers See in the Stars About the Stars” (by Deborah Caulfield, March 24), two star-gazing seers accused the members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of favoring box-office hits in their annual Oscar selections.

Permit me to dispel the monetary musings of this pronosticating duo. The “top grosser” of last year and, incidentally, one of the box-office bonanzas of all time, was “Ghostbusters,” which did not receive one Academy Award.

Further, the foremost grossing producer-director of recent years, Steven Spielberg, has never won a best-picture Academy Award.
