2 Tulane Students Plead Guilty
Two Tulane students indicted in connection with the Green Wave basketball point-shaving scandal pleaded guilty today in a surprise court appearance.
Bobby Thompson, 21, a member of the team, and David Rothenberg, 22, a student from Wilton, Conn., face sentencing on July 9 after an investigation by the state’s Department of Corrections. Thompson pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit sports bribery and Rothenberg to two counts of conspiracy and one count of possession of cocaine. They were two of the eight men charged in an alleged point-shaving scheme that led to the discovery of NCAA recruiting violations and the resignation of basketball coach Ned Fowler and two of his assistants.
