County supervisors Tuesday voted unanimously to launch a search for a temporary home for the Fallbrook Library, which was destroyed in an arson fire on April 1. The fire caused an estimated $1 million in damages, destroying 30,000 books and numerous historic items, including a collection of old photographs of the area. The board’s action authorizes the lease of about 4,000 square feet of space near the old library site at a maximum monthly cost of $4,800. Any expenditure for rent will be reimbursed under the library’s insurance policy. Books will be furnished through transfers from other branches of loans from neighboring libraries. Since the fire, library service in Fallbrook has been made available through the North County Bookmobile. County officials estimated it may take three years to rebuild the library. Meanwhile, Darryl Ray Mick of Fallbrook is in custody after being arraigned in connection with the fire.
