Fresno Chamber of Commerce officials reported that San Joaquin Valley county lost $31 million in tourism business between 1981 and 1983, largely because the area does not have a visitors bureau to market Fresno. Chamber officials said Fresno city and county officials have failed to act on a $300,000 request to establish a visitors bureau. Figures supplied by the state Department of Tourism showed that Fresno County received $225 million in tourism-related business in 1983, compared to $256 million in 1980, chamber officials said.
