A San Diego State University student who police say made lists in his Bible class of intended rape victims has been ordered to stand trial on charges that he assaulted the mother of a woman he once dated. El Cajon Municipal Judge Michael Brennan ruled Tuesday that there is enough evidence against Steven E. Svare to try him on charges of sexual battery and assault with the intent to commit rape. He was arrested March 20. La Mesa Police Detective Glorie Sacco testified at the preliminary hearing that Svare told her he came up with plans to assault and rape the 42-year-old woman the morning of the attack. “I asked him if he had intentions of raping (the victim’s daughter) and he said yes, but that he hadn’t gotten that far,” Sacco said. The woman escaped her attacker and was rescued by neighbors after crying for help, according to police.
