A ramshackle old fishing boat ordered to stop for a routine safety check in San Francisco Bay was carrying more than 32 tons of marijuana worth an estimated $195 million, said a federal Drug Enforcement Agency spokesman. He said it was the largest West Coast seizure of the drug in the recollection of agents. A U.S. Customs special agent said it was believed the boat, the 76-foot Oregon Beaver out of Coos Bay, picked up its load from a “mother ship” offshore. The cargo was believed to have originated in Thailand. The boat’s six-man crew was arrested and held without bail.
