Soft Dawn, Shoemaker Score Win at Santa Anita
Soft Dawn took the lead in the stretch and held off Rose Cream Wednesday to win the $64,850 Providencia Stakes at Santa Anita.
Ridden by Bill Shoemaker, Soft Dawn finished a neck in front of Rose Cream, ridden by Chris McCarron. Charming Susan, the even-money favorite ridden by Darrel McHargue, was third, another 1 1/2 lengths back.
Soft Dawn was clocked in 1:49 3/5 for 1 1/8 miles over a firm turf course and paid $21.40, $8.40 and $3.40. Rose Cream returned $6 and $3.40, and Charming Susan paid $2.60 to show.
