Lower-Income Seniors Get a Transit Break
Beginning Monday, low-income senior citizens will be eligible for discounted tickets for the San Diego Trolley and San Diego Transit buses as part of the city’s “Senior Fair” program.
The reduced-fare ticket books, which become effective May 1, are good for 14 one-way trolley or bus rides. The books cost only $2, a 60% savings over the normal senior citizen’s fare of $5.60 for 14 rides.
To qualify for the reduced fares, a person must be older than 65, a Supplemental Security Income recipient and a resident of San Diego. The Senior Fair program was designed by Councilman Uvaldo Martinez and paid for by the City Council with federal block grant money.
Applications for Senior Fair ticket books are available from San Diego Transit and at Social Security Administration offices.
