Alhambra is considering the purchase of 30 bus shelters illuminated by solar power. The shelters would be installed along Main Street and Valley Boulevard at a cost of nearly $200,000. City Manager Kevin Murphy said similar shelters are in use in Tucson, but Alhambra could have the first ones in California. The Alhambra City Council had been scheduled to award a contract this week, but delayed the action until May 13 to permit further study of the design of the shelters to make sure they would be positioned without blocking the sidewalks.
