Irvine Women Edge Long Beach in Tennis
The UC Irvine women’s tennis team ended its regular season with a 5-4 victory over Cal State Long Beach Tuesday at Irvine. The Anteaters were behind 4-2 after the singles matches, but came back to sweep the doubles.
Dina Trenwith and Kim Giordanella were UCI’s victors in the singles. In the doubles matches, the No. 1 team of Lola Trenwith and Colleen Patton beat Chrissy Bragg and Jennifer Flattery, 6-4, 6-2.
Dina Trenwith and Haruko Shigekawa of Irvine defeated Havaja Frljuckic and Antonia Wolff 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 in the second match. In the No. 3 match, Libby Despot and Stephanie Rhorer beat Lisa Brenner and Blythe Bejan, 6-1, 6-3. The Anteaters (19-15) compete in the Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. championships Friday at the University of Pacific.

Chapman 6, UC Riverside 3--The Panthers defeated the Highlanders in a California Collegiate Athletic Assn. men’s match at Riverside.
Chapman (9-2, 19-12) is currently ranked No. 3 nationally among Division 2 schools. The Panthers’ John Soldat increased his regular-season conference winning streak to 23 matches over three seasons by defeating Riverside’s Ken LaConde, 6-1, 6-3.
