A man believed to be an illegal alien lost a leg Tuesday after he tried to jump onto a speeding northbound freight train Tuesday in the 1800 block of California Street, police spokesman Bill Robinson reported. Roberto Llara, age and residence unknown, fell beneath the moving train, which severed his left leg just below the knee, Robinson said. Llara was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition.
