The State : 248 Held at S.F. Protest
San Francisco police and federal officers arrested 248 demonstrators during a massive protest at the Federal Building against U.S. involvement in Nicaragua. Crowds of demonstrators, bearing signs and banners and singing songs, tried to block all entrances to the building when workers began arriving. Federal security police closed the main entrance. Among those arrested was Daniel Ellsberg, of Pentagon Papers fame.
