Two men were killed and another was seriously injured Wednesday when a flatbed truck loaded with carnival rides slammed into a compact car stalled in the middle lane on the Ventura Freeway in Tarzana.

The Los Angeles County coroner’s office identified the dead as Jose Anival Palencia, 19, the car’s driver, and a passenger, Jose Wilfredo Umana, 36, both of Los Angeles. Both died at the scene of massive internal injuries, said California Highway Patrol Sgt. Tony D’Ambrosio.

A third passenger in the car, Jose Ruez, 42, address unknown, was in County-USC Medical Center with internal and pelvic injuries.
