It was a night to remember for Seattle’s Mike Moore--back to Little League days.

Moore came within three outs of a no-hitter before he was shelled by four singles in the ninth, but the Mariners held on to beat the Milwaukee Brewers, 4-2, Wednesday night.

Moore’s no-hit bid ended on Robin Yount’s leadoff single in the ninth inning.

“I haven’t thrown anything close to this since Little League,” said Moore, who gave up two runs on four hits, four walks and had eight strikeouts. “We were having a good time on the bench, everybody was kidding around.”

Moore had everything going his way until the ninth inning when Yount lined a single up the middle on a 2-and-0 count.

Bill Schroeder followed with a single and two outs later, Ted Simmons and Mark Brouhard cracked run-scoring singles to chase the right-hander. But reliever Ed Nunez pitched out of the jam to preserve Moore’s third victory in six decisions.

The Mariners got a homer and three runs batted in from Alvin Davis, and the Brewers got an unassisted double play by relief pitcher Jim Kern, who caught a line drive by Jack Perconte and ran to third base to double off a runner.
