College Baseball : UCI, Vegas Split Doubleheader
UC Irvine split a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. doubleheader at the University of Nevada Las Vegas Saturday. The Anteaters lost the opener, 8-7, but won the second game, 4-3.
Paul Hammond did more than his share to help the Anteaters in the first game, but it wasn’t enough.
In the sixth inning, the outfielder delivered his fourth homer of the year. In the seventh, he hit a three-run triple to give the Anteaters a temporary 7-5 lead. He wound up with a total of five RBIs in the game, but the Rebels rallied with two runs in the seventh inning and one in the ninth against losing pitcher Bo Kent (2-5).
Pitcher Craig Brink was the key to Irvine’s victory in the second game.
