An unidentified gunman disappeared after shooting two men who tried to hold up a Long Beach bar, police reported. One of the robbery suspects, Louis Moses, was pronounced dead at the Seabreeze Bar. The other suspect, Claude Vernon, was in satisfactory condition in the jail ward at County-USC Medical Center. He was booked for attempted robbery and murder, because the alleged robbery attempt led to the death of Moses. Long Beach police said they were searching for the gunman, who halted the robbery by opening fire on Moses and Vernon.
