A 32-year-old Saugus man was killed early Saturday when his car, apparently traveling in the wrong direction, hit a guardrail on the Antelope Valley Freeway, became airborne and crashed 15 feet below on San Fernando Road, authorities said.

The man’s identity has not been released pending notification of relatives.

The motorist was traveling north in the southbound lanes of the freeway at about 3 a.m. when his car hit the guardrail, said California Highway Patrol Officer Phillip Lammi.

Paramedics took the victim to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia.
