An alert nurse was credited with saving the life of a newborn girl whose mother allegedly asked her brother to put the infant in a plastic bag. A spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Wendy Stinson, 20, walked into Palmdale Medical Center seeking medical treatment for what she said was an abortion. During treatment, Deputy Steve Fitzsimmons said, a staff nurse heard her make a telephone call during which she told someone to put the baby “in a plastic bag” and carry it out to the garage. The nurse telephoned the Stinson residence, told a young male who answered to remove the baby from the bag, and then notified the Sheriff’s Department, a department spokesman said. Paramedics and deputies found the day-old infant lying on a plastic bag atop a kitchen table and took it to Antelope Valley Medical Center, where it was reported in critical condition. Stinson and her 15-year-old brother were arrested on suspicion of child endangering and attempted murder.
