Edmund Kemper III, the 6-foot, 9-inch former construction worker serving a life sentence for eight mutilation killings, waived his right to a parole hearing at the California Medical Facility at Vacaville. Kemper, 36, told state parole officials he was not suitable for release and would wait three years before requesting another hearing. Prison spokesman Joe McGrath said Kemper’s decision, which came only moments before his parole hearing, was based on the presence of the news media. “He felt he could not adequately state his case in front of the press,” McGrath said. Kemper had been turned down for parole at hearings in 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1982.
