Retired Drugstore Owner Dies at 84

Frank Vajo, who with his wife, Nancy, owned and operated the Walteria Drugstore from 1950 to 1960, died May 25 at Torrance Memorial Hospital. He was 84 and a longtime leader of the Southern California Hungarian community.

Born in Fairport Harbor, Ohio, Vajo moved to his parents’ homeland, Hungary, when he was 3. He was drafted into the Hungarian Army in World War I.

The Vajos immigrated to the United States in the 1930s.

He is survived by his widow; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Roy McKinney of Bel-Air; two grandsons in Carmel, and a brother in Hungary. Private funeral services were held.
