The late Barbara Myerhoff will be remembered by friends who are raising money to purchase a public bench in her memory for the beachfront site of the Israel Levin Senior Center. Myerhoff, who died in January, won acclaim in the literary and performing arts fields for “Number Our Days,” her account of the senior citizen community in Venice.

“The bench is a symbol of the vitality of these seniors and their culture, and is a durable legacy for the future,” project developer Lauren W. Deutsch said.

Myerhoff commented on “bench behavior” in her text, noting the use of benches as meeting places, story-telling sites and stations from which the seniors could be part of the active community. A dedication ceremony will be scheduled.
