The 4th District Court of Appeal denied an appeal Thursday by Mayor Roger Hedgecock to reduce five felony perjury counts to misdemeanors. Hedgecock’s attorneys had argued that the mayor did not commit perjury when he signed several campaign disclosure forms that investigators charged omitted key financial information. The appeal was filed as part of Hedgecock’s retrial, which is scheduled for Aug. 22. A similar appeal was filed during Hedgecock’s first trial, which ended in a hung jury, and was also denied by the court.
