Pepperdine junior pitcher Scott Marrett, drafted last week by the California Angels, has signed a contract. Marrett, who posted a 15-0 record for the Waves this season, was the West Coast Athletic Conference’s pitcher of the year.

Other Pepperdine players who signed contracts after being selected in the major league draft are senior shortstop Nezi Balelo with the Seattle Mariners and junior catcher Chad Kreuter with the Texas Rangers.

Waves senior centerfielder Brad Bierley, the WCAC’s player of the year, has been drafted by the Minnesota Twins, but he had not signed with the organization as the week began.

Westside residents who recently scored holes in one at Los Angeles municipal golf courses include James McKeown , former president of the Penmar Golf Course Men’s Club, at Penmar; Steven Violette of Santa Monica at Penmar, Chris R. Boreta of Santa Monica at Rancho Park; Kiyoshi Matsumo of Venice and Leon Lasken of West Los Angeles, both at Penmar, and Lucy Bearer of West Los Angeles and Gary Saldutti of Santa Monica, both at Rancho’s nine-hole layout.

Sam Blood, Santa Monica High School senior volleyball player, was named to the All-CIF 4-A first team selected by coaches.

Dwayne Polee, Pepperdine’s star basketball guard, will play with national teams of college all-stars in international tournaments in Spain and Japan this summer. Polee, the West Coast Athletic Conference player of the year last season, will play in the Jones Cup, June 23-30 in Barcelona, and in the World University Games, Aug. 24-Sept. 4 in Kobe.
