70 Comb Yosemite in Search for Missing Simi Valley Teen

A 70-person search-and-rescue team combed parts of Yosemite National Park on Saturday, looking for a Simi Valley teen-ager who has been missing since Tuesday.

Daniel Howard, 18, was separated from three friends while hiking on a trail, park spokeswoman Mallory Smith said.

The four hikers had spent one night in the park when Howard, who was walking more slowly than the others, agreed to meet his friends two miles up the trail in an area called Ten Lakes, Smith said.

Howard wore a full pack with a sleeping bag and had enough food for two days. Smith said the trail was in rough terrain with fairly steep slopes on either side.

The search, which was organized by the National Park Service, will continue today if Howard is not found, Smith said. Helicopters and trained dogs are also looking for him.
