Landscape Award Winners Named : State Contractors Capture Honors for Outstanding Projects

An apartment project in Rancho Cucamonga and a commercial facility in Santa Fe Springs were among the projects honored this month by the California Landscape Contractors Assn., Long Beach-Orange County chapter, the organization’s largest chapter.

The President’s Award, given to the best entry in any landscape installation category, went to South Shores Landscaping, Mission Viejo, for Pepperwood Apartments, Rancho Cucamonga. The Sweepstakes Award, the organization’s highest, honoring the best overall landscaping project of the year, went to R & D Landscaping & Irrigation of Santa Ana for its work at McMaster-Carr Supply, Santa Fe Springs.

Olympic track medalist Rafer Johnson, who lighted the 1984 Summer Olympics stadium torch, presented the 1985 beautification awards at the Westin South Coast Plaza Hotel, Costa Mesa.

Judges were William J. Cathcart, Orange; Keith A. French, San Clemente; Dann Mikkelsen, Orange, and Gerald M. Robbins, Costa Mesa.

The Bill Vandergeest Excelsior Award, for the year’s best landscaping project submitted by a new member, went to Eureka Landscape Construction & Maintenance, Brea, for the Katz residence in Woodland Hills.
