The State : Stockton Mayor Under Fire

Share

The Stockton City Council voted to expel Mayor Randall Ronk from office for falsifying travel vouchers. Ronk, who said he will run for reelection, told reporters he will file for an injunction in federal court in an attempt to retain his post. The council had earlier found Ronk, 29, guilty on seven counts of falsifying vouchers in 1983 and 1984. Ronk has said he needed the money to cover costs of an undercover investigation. The charges were similar to those resulting in a not guilty verdict for Ronk last spring after a San Joaquin County Superior Court criminal trial. Council members voted 6-0 with two abstentions to expel Ronk from the council as well as the mayor’s office and require him to repay nearly $3,000 to the city treasury.
