A Los Angeles County Jail inmate was stabbed to death Thursday evening during a fight with another inmate, a sheriff’s spokesman said Friday.

James M. Preston, 35, who was serving a one-year sentence for burglary, was stabbed with an unidentified weapon and died in the jail infirmary. Paul Calles, 37, in jail on a robbery charge, was re-booked on suspicion of murder, the spokesman said. No motive was immediately established for the slaying.
