Costa Mesa : Garden Grove Boy, 2, Dies After Being Struck by Car
A 2-year-old boy died after being struck by a car in Costa Mesa Sunday night after he reportedly ran into the middle of the street while playing, police said.
Stephen Jelke, of Garden Grove, died of internal injuries at Fountain Valley Community Hospital about an hour after being hit at 7:50 p.m., police said. The accident occurred in the 800 block of Center Street.
Lt. Rick Johnson said the boy was struck by a westbound car driven by Lillian P. Duarte, 18, of Costa Mesa.
The incident is under investigation, Johnson said.
